Americas Media Ties To Genocidal Israel

All in the Family

Recent exposés revealing that Ethan Bronner, the New York Times' Israel-Palestine bureau chief, has a son in the Israeli military have caused a storm of controversy that continues to swirl and generate further revelations. (See my piece for CounterPunch, The NYT's Ethan Bronner's Conflict With Impartiality.)

Many people find such a sign of family partisanship in an editor covering a foreign conflict troubling - especially given the Times' record of Israel-centric journalism.

Times management at first refused to confirm Bronner's situation, then refused to comment on it. Finally, public outcry forced Times Public Editor Clark Hoyt to confront the problem in a February 7th column.

After bending over backwards to praise the institution that employs him, Hoyt ultimately opined that Bronner should be re-assigned to a different sphere of reporting to avoid the "appearance" of bias. Times Editor Bill Keller declined to do so, however, instead writing a column calling Bronner's connections to Israel valuable because they "supply a measure of sophistication about Israel and its adversaries that someone with no connections would lack."

If such "sophistication" is valuable, the Times' espoused commitment to the "impartiality and neutrality of the company's newsrooms" would seem to require it to have a balancing editor equally sophisticated about Palestine and its adversary, but Keller did not address that.

Bronner is far from alone

As it turns out, Bronner's ties to the Israeli military are not the rarity one might expect.

· A previous Times bureau chief, Joel Greenberg, before he was bureau chief but after he was already publishing in the Times from Israel, actually served in the Israeli army.

· Media pundit and Atlantic staffer Jeffrey Goldberg also served in the Israeli military; it's unclear when, how, or even if his military service ended.

· Richard Chesnoff, who has been covering Mideast events for more than 40 years, had a son serving in the Israeli military while Chesnoff covered Israel as US News & World Report's senior foreign correspondent.

· NPR's Linda Gradstein's husband was an Israeli sniper and may still be in the Israeli reserves. NPR refuses to disclose whether Gradstein herself is also an Israeli citizen, as are her children and husband.

· Mitch Weinstock, national editor for the San Diego Union-Tribune, served in the Israeli military.

· The New York Times' other correspondent from the region, Isabel Kershner, is an Israeli citizen. Israel has universal compulsory military service, which suggests that Kershner herself and/or family members may have military connections. The Times refuses to answer questions about whether she and/or family members have served or are currently serving in the Israeli military. Is it possible that Times Foreign Editor Susan Chira herself has such connections? The Times refuses to answer.

· Many Associated Press writers and editors are Israeli citizens or have Israeli families. AP will not reveal how many of the journalists in its control bureau for the region currently serve in the Israeli military, how many have served in the past, and how many have family members with this connection.

· Similarly, many TV correspondents such as Martin Fletcher have been Israeli citizens and/or have Israeli families. Do they have family connections to the Israeli military?

· Time Magazine's bureau chief several years ago became an Israeli citizen after he had assumed his post. Does he have relatives in the military?

· CNN's Wolf Blitzer, while not an Israeli citizen, was based in Israel for many years, wrote a book whitewashing Israeli spying on the US, and used to work for the Israel lobby in the US. None of this is divulged to CNN viewers.

Tikkun's editor Michael Lerner has a son who served in the Israeli military. While Lerner has been a strong critic of many Israeli policies, in an interview with Jewish Week, Lerner explains:

"Having a son in the Israeli army was a manifestation of my love for Israel, and I assume that having a son in the Israeli army is a manifestation of Bronner's love of Israel."

Lerner goes on to make a fundamental point:

"...there is a difference in my emotional and spiritual connection to these two sides [Israelis and Palestinians]. On the one side is my family; on the other side are decent human beings. I want to support human beings all over the planet but I have a special connection to my family. I don't deny it."

For a great many of the reporters and editors determining what Americans learn about Israel-Palestine, Israel is family.

Jonathan Cook, a British journalist based in Nazareth, writes of a recent meeting with a Jerusalem based bureau chief, who explained: "... Bronner's situation is 'the rule, not the exception. I can think of a dozen foreign bureau chiefs, responsible for covering both Israel and the Palestinians, who have served in the Israeli army, and another dozen who like Bronner have kids in the Israeli army."

Cook writes that the bureau chief explained: "It is common to hear Western reporters boasting to one another about their Zionist credentials, their service in the Israeli army or the loyal service of their children."

Apparently, intimate ties to Israel are among the many open secrets in the region that are hidden from the American public. If, as the news media insist, these ties present no problem or even, as the Times' Keller insists, enhance the journalists' work, why do the news agencies consistently refuse to admit them?

The reason is not complicated

While Israel may be family for these journalists and editors, for the vast majority of Americans, Israel is a foreign country. In survey after survey, Americans say they don't wish to "take sides" on this conflict. In other words, the American public wants full, unfiltered, unslanted coverage.

Quite likely the news media refuse to answer questions about their journalists' affiliations because they suspect, accurately, that the public would be displeased to learn that the reporters and editors charged with supplying news on a foreign nation and conflict are, in fact, partisans.

While Keller claims that the New York Times is covering this conflict "even-handedly," studies indicate otherwise:

* The Times covers international reports documenting Israeli human rights abuses at a rate 19 times lower than it reports on the far smaller number of international reports documenting Palestinian human rights abuses.

* The Times covers Israeli children's deaths at rates seven times greater than they cover Palestinian children's deaths, even though there are vastly more of the latter and they occurred first.

* The Times fails to inform its readers that Israel's Jewish-only colonies on confiscated Palestinian Christian and Muslim land are illegal; that its collective punishment of 1.5 million men, women, and children in Gaza is not only cruel and ruthless, it is also illegal; and that its use of American weaponry is routinely in violation of American laws.

* The Times covers the one Israeli (a soldier) held by Palestinians at a rate incalculably higher than it reports on the Palestinian men, women, and children - the vast majority civilians - imprisoned by Israel (currently over 7,000).

· The Times neglects to report that hundreds of Israel's captives have never even been charged with a crime and that those who have were tried in Israeli military courts under an array of bizarre military statutes that make even the planting of onions without a permit a criminal offense - a legal system, if one can call it that, that changes at the whim of the current military governor ruling over a subject population; a system in which parents are without power to protect their children.

* The Times fails to inform its readers that 40 percent of Palestinian males have been imprisoned by Israel, a statistic that normally would be considered highly newsworthy, but that Bronner, Kershner, and Chira apparently feel is unimportant to report.

Americans, whose elected representatives give Israel uniquely gargantuan sums of our tax money (a situation also not covered by the media), want and need all the facts, not just those that Israel's family members decree reportable.

We're not getting them.

Israeli PM Netanyahu's speech at the UN is a major insight into the Israeli's mentality, psyche and logic. In his speech Netanyahu, a prolific and charismatic speaker, gives air to his genocidal inclinations, he brings to light the Israeli supremacy but he also allows us to detect some shaky and vulnerable spots at the heart of the Jewish national narrative. Reading Netanyahu's speech makes it very clear that both the Zionist Shoa and the 'promised land' narratives are on the verge of collapse. It seems as if the 'discredited' Iranian president Ahmadinejad has managed to succeed after all.

Don't You Mess With Our Shoa

Israelis love their Shoa, for the Shoa is no doubt their best selling Hasbara (propaganda) product. It somehow allows them to kill en masse and to do it indistinguishably while insisting that it is they who happen to be the victims.

"I went to a villa in a suburb of Berlin called Wannsee." Said Netanyahu. "There, on January 20,1942, after a hearty meal, senior Nazi officials met and decided how to exterminate the Jewish people."

PM Netanyahu, if you are genuinely interested in 'extermination plans' you do not have to travel to Wannsee, Berlin. All you have to do is visit your IDF's headquarters in Tel Aviv. Your chief commanders will guide you through their IDF 'solutions' for the Palestinians. At the end of the day, it is your army that surrounds Palestinians with barbed-wire, it is you who keep civilian populations in a siege with inadequate food supplies and medicine. It is your army that poured WMD over the most densely populated neighbourhoods on this planet. While the real meaning of the 'Nazi Final Solution' (Die Endlösung) is still discussed by historians who fail to agree between themselves what it really meant, the true reality of the Israeli murderous solution has been seen by us all.

However, it is almost amusing to see PM Netanyahu rushing to defend the Zionist holocaust narrative. Looking at Netanyahu presenting the protocol of the Wannsee conference to the UN assembly gives a clear impression that the Israeli PM believes that the Shoa needs an urgent pump of credibility. For the first time, the Shoa is on the defence.

"Here is a copy of the plans for Auschwitz-Birkenau, where one million Jews were murdered. Is this too a lie?" asks the Israeli PM.

PM Netanyahu, may I suggest to you that not a single humanist cares about the exact numbers: whether it was one or four millions Jews who died in Auschwitz, no one doubts that the camp was a horrible place. Yet, two questions must be answered once and for all: how is it that the Jews, who suffered so much during that war, managed to get themselves involved in a colossal racist crime against the Palestinians (1948 Nakba) just three years after the liberation of Auschwitz? How is it that the Israeli leadership, that happens to be so sensitive to Jewish suffering, manages to neglect the pain they inflict on millions of Palestinians?

Supremacy and Beyond

As a National movement, Zionism fails to respect other national and popular movements. Seemingly Netanyahu fails to respect the Iranian people and their regime. "Wherever they can, they impose a backward regimented society where women, minorities, gays or anyone not deemed to be a true believer is brutally subjugated." Netanyahu, must know that the Judaic law is not very different from Islam on these matters. He must also remember that it is in his country that gays were murdered in the street just a month ago. It is almost amusing that Netanyahu chooses to equate Iran with Barbarism and the Middle Ages for its treatment of minorities. As far as minorities are concerned, the Jewish state is actually the darkest place on this planet. In Netanyahu's promised land half of the population cannot participate in the democratic game just for failing to be Jewish.

Israel according to Netanyahu is the embodiment of Western modernity.

"We (the Westerners) will crack the genetic code. We will cure the incurable. We will lengthen our lives. We will find a cheap alternative to fossil fuels and clean up the planet. I am proud that my country Israel is at the forefront of these advances." I must admit that I am not at all overwhelmed by Israeli scientific or technological achievements. Nor have I ever seen any evidence of Israeli attempts to save humanity or even the planet. In fact all I see is quite the opposite. However, if Netanyahu welcomes scientific progress, he should be the first to rally for the Iranian nuclear project. As we all know, this doesn't seem to be the case. He, for some reason, thinks that, at least regionally, nuclear energy and weapons must remain Jew only property.

Netanyahu argues that "if the most primitive fanaticism can acquire the most deadly weapons, the march of history could be reversed for a time." Netanyahu may well be correct but one should point out to him that the above applies to Israel more than any other country, state or society. For the time being it is the Jewish State that has been caught pouring WMD on its imprisoned civilian population. It is the Jewish State that is dragging us all into an 'eye for an eye' primitive Biblical fanaticism. As if this is not enough, it is also America and Britain that launched illegal wars orchestrated by Zionist led Neocons and fundraisers. This war has cost more than one million lives so far.

However, for once I agree with Netanyhau:

"The greatest threat facing the world today", he says, "is the marriage between religious fanaticism and the weapons of mass destruction."

In fact, no one could describe the danger posed by the Jewish state and Zionism any better. Israel is indeed a deadly marriage between Old Testament gross genocidal barbarism, Zionist fanaticism and a huge arsenal of WMD, chemical, biological and nuclear that has already been partially put into action.

Sabbath Goyim

Like other Zionist operations around the world, Netanyahu is convinced that the Goyim should fight the Jewish wars. "Above all, will the international community stop the terrorist regime of Iran from developing atomic weapons, thereby endangering the peace of the entire world?" I actually would like to stress that PM Netanyahu is all wrong here. If the United Nation is interested in bringing peace to this region and the world, it is of the essence to help Iran to develop its nuclear project and even its military nuclear capacity. This seems to be the only thing that may curb the English Speaking Empire's lethal expansionist enthusiasm as performed recently in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan. It will surely stop the Zionists from celebrating their symptoms at the expense of their neighbours.

Following the successful transformation of the American and British armies into an Israeli subservient mission force, Netanyahu seems to expect the UN to follow and to fulfil the very same role. "Hamas", he says, "fired from Gaza thousands of missiles, mortars and rockets on nearby Israeli cities. Year after year, as these missiles were deliberately hurled at our civilians, not a single UN resolution was passed condemning those criminal attacks." I guess that someone should remind the Israeli PM that the dispute between Hamas and Israel is not exactly an international quarrel, for Palestine is not a sovereign state and Gaza is nothing less than an Israeli-run concentration camp. In other words, the practicality of the matter is simple. The UN should only deal with war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel, its leadership and its army. It is not down to the UN to pass any kind of judgment on the oppressed.

Mass Murder Fantasies

It doesn't take long before Netanyahu lists his ideological mentors and the core of his lethal inspiration "When the Nazis rocketed British cities during World War II" Actually the allies levelled German cities, causing hundreds of thousands of victims By these twisted standards, the UN Human Rights Council would have dragged Roosevelt and Churchill to the dock as war criminals. What a perversion of truth. What a perversion of justice. Delegates of the United Nations, will you accept this farce?"

Netanyahu is almost correct. In his recounting of the 2nd WW he surely admits here that Israel follows Roosevelt's and Churchill's mass murder tactics. But he surely fails to realise that if it was indeed down to ethics and Justice (rather than the usual dirty politics) Roosevelt and Churchill would have been charged with war crimes on a most severe scale. Shockingly enough, Netanyahu falls into the most obvious legal trap equating Israeli activity with acts of carpet bombardment on a huge scale. For those who fail to see it all, this is a rapidly blinking red light hazard. In Netanyahu's perception of reality nuking countries and flattening towns is a justifiable act. Roosevelt and Churchill seem to be his moral entitlement. In fact these statements are enough to make it clear to every reasonable human being that Israel is a genocidal entity that is capable of bringing our civilisation to a devastating end.

This is a wake up call: it is not just the Palestinians or the Iranians. It is actually all of us.

Bibi* the Peace Maker

By now, the Israeli PM is ready to state his Judeo centric peace mantra. "Ladies and Gentlemen, all of Israel wants peace". Yet as far as statistics are concerned, we have recently learned that 94% of the Israeli Jews also approved the carpet bombardment of their next door neighbours. It is impossible not to see a clear discrepancy between the 'peace loving' verbalism and the murderous reality.

"We ask the Palestinians to finally do what they have refused to do for 62 years: Say yes to a Jewish state." Once again, I happen to agree with PM Netanyahu. The Palestinian may as well say YES to a Jewish state, but not in Palestine or in the Middle East. If Obama, Brown, Merkel or any other deluded world leader who is still insisting to approve the validity or necessity of a racially orientated 'Jewish national homeland', he or she is more than welcome to allocate land to such a project within his or her own territory. Palestinians should say NO to a Jewish state in the Holy Land or in the region. Palestinians should never agree to the existence of a Jewish state on their land. In fact the UN must follow this line and do whatever it can to dismantle this evil apartheid regime.

Khazarian United

To a certain extent, Netanyahu's UN speech expresses some deep concerns Jews tend to keep to themselves. At the end of the day, the Israelis and Ashkenazi Israelis in particular know pretty well that Palestine is not exactly the land of their ancestors. If the Israeli Ashkenazi Jews, including Netanyahu, do want to find their roots, Khazaria is the place to start. However, Netanyahu tries to defuse these historical facts. "The Jewish people are not foreign conquerors in the Land of Israel. This is the land of our forefathers We are not strangers to this land. It is our homeland" says Netanyahu with total conviction.

PM Netanyahu, I will make it plain and clear. Not only are you foreign to the land, you are also foreign to almost every possible understanding of the notion of humanity. In fact, the Separation Wall that is going to be left after the inevitable disappearance of
your 'Jew only democracy' will serve generations to come with an astonishing historical monument of Jewish national identity estranged from ethics, universalism and human brotherhood. The crime against humanity committed by the Jewish state in the name of the Jewish people is not something that will be wiped out from the history text books in a short time. Quite the opposite; it will stand as another mythological chapter in this never-ending saga of supremacist compulsive pathological self-loving.

"We must have security" says Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu as he ends his speech. And I am here to disappoint him. Israel will never be secured. It was born in a sin, and its existence surpasses any notion of ethics or human existence. The Jewish state has passed the 'no return zone'. It is doomed to vanish. We can only hope that once this happens the process of Jewish assimilation and integration into humanity will re-embark. At the end of the day Jewish Nationalism both left, right and centre was there to keep Jews apart. The history of the 20th century teaches us that this tendency to segregate oneself is bad for humanity and it is also devastating for the Jews.

On October 16, 2004, President George W. Bush signed the Israel Lobby's bill, the Global Anti-Semitism Review Act. This legislation requires the US Department of State to monitor anti-semitism world wide.

To monitor anti-semitism, it has to be defined. What is the definition? Basically, as defined by the Israel Lobby and Abe Foxman, it boils down to any criticism of Israel or Jews.

Rahm Israel Emanuel hasn't been mopping floors at the White House.
As soon as he gets the Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 passed, it will become a crime for any American to tell the truth about Israel's treatment of Palestinians and theft of their lands.

It will be a crime for Christians to acknowledge the New Testament's account of Jews demanding the crucifixion of Jesus.

It will be a crime to report the extraordinary influence of the Israel Lobby on the White House and Congress, such as the AIPAC-written resolutions praising Israel for its war crimes against the Palestinians in Gaza that were endorsed by 100 per cent of the US Senate and 99 per cent of the House of Representatives, while the rest of the world condemned Israel for its barbarity.

It will be a crime to doubt the Holocaust.

It will become a crime to note the disproportionate representation of Jews in the media, finance, and foreign policy.

In other words, it means the end of free speech, free inquiry, and the First Amendment to the Constitution. Any facts or truths that cast aspersion upon Israel will simply be banned.

Given the hubris of the US government, which leads Washington to apply US law to every country and organization, what will happen to the International Red Cross, the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, and the various human rights organizations that have demanded investigations of Israel's military assault on Gaza's civilian population? Will they all be arrested for the hate crime of "excessive" criticism of Israel?

This is a serious question.

A recent UN report, which is yet to be released in its entirety, blames Israel for the deaths and injuries that occurred within the United Nations premises in Gaza. The Israeli government has responded by charging that the UN report is "tendentious, patently biased," which puts the UN report into the State Department's category of excessive criticism and strong anti-Israel sentiment.

Israel is getting away with its blatant use of the American government to silence its critics despite the fact that the Israeli press and Israeli soldiers have exposed the Israeli atrocities in Gaza and the premeditated murder of women and children urged upon the Israeli invaders by rabbis. These acts are clearly war crimes.

It was the Israeli press that published the pictures of the Israeli soldiers' T-shirts that indicate that the willful murder of women and children is now the culture of the Israeli army. The T-shirts are horrific expressions of barbarity. For example, one shows a pregnant Palestinian woman with a crosshairs over her stomach and the slogan, "One shot, two kills." These T-shirts are an indication that Israel's policy toward the Palestinians is one of extermination.

It has been true for years that the most potent criticism of Israel's mistreatment of the Palestinians comes from the Israeli press and Israeli peace groups. For example, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz and Jeff Halper of ICAHD have shown a moral conscience that apparently does not exist in the Western democracies where Israel's crimes are covered up and even praised.

Will the American hate crime bill be applied to Haaretz and Jeff Halper? Will American commentators who say nothing themselves but simply report what Haaretz and Halper have said be arrested for "spreading hatred of Israel, an anti-semitic act"?

Many Americans have been brainwashed by the propaganda that Palestinians are terrorists who threaten innocent Israel. These Americans will see the censorship as merely part of the necessary war on terror. They will accept the demonization of fellow citizens who report unpalatable facts about Israel and agree that such people should be punished for aiding and abetting terrorists.

A massive push is underway to criminalize criticism of Israel. American university professors have fallen victim to the well organized attempt to eliminate all criticism of Israel. Norman Finkelstein was denied tenure at a Catholic university because of the power of the Israel Lobby. Now the Israel Lobby is after University of California (at Santa Barbara,) professor Wiliam Robinson. Robinson's crime: his course on global affairs included some reading assignments critical of Israel's invasion of Gaza.

The Israel Lobby apparently succeeded in convincing the Obama Justice (sic) Department that it is anti-semitic to accuse two Jewish AIPAC officials, Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman, of spying. The Israel Lobby succeeded in getting their trial delayed for four years, and now Attorney General Eric Holder has dropped charges. Yet, Larry Franklin, the DOD official accused of giving secret material to Rosen and Weissman, is serving 12 years and 7 months in prison.

The absurdity is extraordinary. The two Israeli agents are not guilty of receiving secrets, but the American official is guilty of giving secrets to them! If there is no spy in the story, how was Franklin convicted of giving secrets to a spy?

Criminalizing criticism of Israel destroys any hope of America having an independent foreign policy in the Middle East that serves American rather than Israeli interests. It eliminates any prospect of Americans escaping from their enculturation with Israeli propaganda.

To keep American minds captive, the Lobby is working to ban as anti-semitic any truth or disagreeable fact that pertains to Israel. It is permissible to criticize every other country in the world, but it is anti-semitic to criticize Israel, and anti-semitism will soon be a universal hate-crime in the Western world.

Most of Europe has already criminalized doubting the Holocaust. It is a crime even to confirm that it happened but to conclude that less than 6 million Jews were murdered.

Why is the Holocaust a subject that is off limits to examination? How could a case buttressed by hard facts possibly be endangered by kooks and anti-semitics? Surely the case doesn't need to be protected by thought control.

Imprisoning people for doubts is the antithesis of modernity.

Israel on Monday urged Spain to stop a Spanish judicial investigation into a 2002 bombing on the Gaza Strip, saying it “contravened the clear position of the Spanish government.” (see: hypocritical kikes don't want Spain to show the world what mass-murdering, zionist pieces of sh*t they are!)

Spanish National Court judge Fernando Andreu announced Monday that he will pursue his investigation into a 2002 Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip, despite contrary advice by prosecutors at the court.

In response to the decision, Israel’s Justice Ministry said it was “convinced the Spanish government and judicial system will do their utmost” against a “cynical” attempt by the Palestinian plaintiffs to “exploit the Spanish judicial system in order to advance a political agenda against Israel.” ( how long before the jews extort, threaten, boycott and assassinate the Spainish Administers in charge of this investigation?)

Defense Minister Ehud "I-Like-To-Rape-Palestinean-Children-and-Drink-Their-Blood" Barak said he would call on the Spanish government to prevent the investigation, reiterating Israel’s stance that the Israel Defense Forces is the most “moral” army in the world.

“I intend to appeal to the Spanish foreign minister, the Spanish minister of defense and, if need be, the Spanish prime minister, who is a colleague of mine in the Socialist International, to override the decision,” said Barak. (meaning he is going to financially ruin th eir families, kill them or their families in order to shut them up)

“No army is as (IM)moral as the Israel Defense Forces and I have no doubt that the people who were involved in eliminating [alleged Hamas member Salah] Shehadeh acted with a clear mind and towards a single goal - to protect the citizens of Israel.” (meaning they condone mass murder, genocide and assassinations)

Six senior IDF officers and security officials are the subject of investigation over their involvement in the 2002 bombing in densely populated Gaza City. That attack, using a one-ton bomb dropped from an Israeli F-16, targeted and killed alleged Shehadeh along with 14 other people.

Andreu said the 2002 bombing might constitute a crime against humanity. The suspects named by Andreu include former Defense Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, former Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Dan Halutz and five current or former army officers or security officials.

On Monday, the Spanish judge wrote that Israel’s military conducted an ( mock)
internal investigation but Israeli military and civilian prosecutors declined to open proceedings of their own. (Naaaaawwww! Say it ain't so! WHY would they do THAT???) He said for this reason Spain has jurisdiction to keep investigating.

“In Israel there has not been, nor is there now under way, any legal
proceedings aimed at investigating the Gaza bombing,” the judge wrote. (NO SH*T Shylock Sherlock!)

The National Court has become known for its inquiries into alleged human rights abuses in other countries, ranging from Chile and Argentina to Tibet and Western Sahara.

Andreu’s initial decision to investigate infuriated the Israeli government. Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said in response that Spain planned to modify its law to narrow the scope of universal jurisdiction cases to those with a clear link to Spain.

Growing up in New York City with a large Jewish population, I
have been on the fringe of Jewish society since I was eleven years old.
In my junior high school (PS 118), many classes were reduced in size by
two-thirds
or more on Jewish holidays.

I grew up assuming that the Jews had a Godgiven right to the land of
Israel. After all, isn't that what the Bible teaches? But in my late teen
years, as a Catholic, I learned the traditional Catholic teaching that the
Church, not some modern secular political entity, is the "New Israel."

The New Testament teaches that through and in Christ, the Church is the
continuation of ancient Israel. Baptized into the Body of Christ, we
Christians become Children of Israel by adoption and grace. This teaching,
is also traditionally accepted by Anglicans and Lutherans, is
roundly denied by large numbers of fundamentalist Protestants, who see the
secular state of Israel as the fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy. That
view has contributed significantly to American zionist foreign policy.

Still, until I was in my 50s, I continued to believe that there was
certainly nothing wrong with the Jewish state of Israel, and I believed the
Jews had every right to it. I couldn't fathom what those crazy Arabs were
upset by. I realize now that this mental image of the Palestinians was
engendered
by the American media.
It certainly appears the media bias is pro-Israel, and favors the
Palestinians only when their mistreatment is so blatant it can't be ignored.
The cartoon on the Tuesday editorial page has convinced me even further of
this.

I'm still in favor of the Jews having a homeland. The Church's belief that
She is Herself Israel, renewed in Christ, does not imply we would deny the
Jews their rights as a people. And Israel is an accomplished fact: let it
stand. But now that I know in detail the story of this modern Jewish state,
I'm very disheartened by the way the Israelis have accomplished their
purpose.

The Encyclopedia Britannica. hasBegin, Menachem in it, Menachem Begin joined
the militant
Irgun Zvai Leumi, and was a commander of that group from 1943 to 1948.
(Encyclopedia *Britannica, *Volume 2, page 47.) He was our first Zionist
Terrorist.

What exactly was the Irgun Zvai Leumi? The Irgun was
"an extreme nationalist group ... whose policies called for the use of
force, if necessary, to establish a Jewish state on both sides of the
Jordan. Irgun committed acts of terrorism and assassination against the
British ... and it was also violently anti-Arab. . . " (En*cyclopedia
Brittanica, Volume 6, page 382.)

According to Colliers Encyclopedia (Volume 3, page 782), "Another such
group was the Stern Group, or Stern Gang, headed by Yitzhak Shamir. " In
Volume 13, page 343, *Colliers *speaks of "the terrorist groups, the Irgun
Zvai Leumi and the Stern Group."

In the Encyclopedia Americana, contributor J. C. Hurewitz of Columbia
University tells us "the Irgunists claimed that their acts of terrorism
against the Arabs and British largely forced Britain's decision to end its
mandate in Palestine. " (Volume 15, page 438.) These terrorist acts included
the murder of the British representative, Lord Moyne, in Cairo in November
1944 and the murder of Count Folke Bernadotte, the UN-appointed mediator, on
Sept. 17, 1948.

The Americana tells us, "Shamir was believed to have played a prominent
part in planning the murders of a British minister and a UN diplomat."
(Volume 24, page 665.)

I'm very disheartened by the way the Israelis have accomplished their
purpose.

In the Britannica Year Book for 1948, page 577, under the entry
"Palestine" it reads, "Meanwhile the [Jewish] terrorist attacks in Palestine
continued, taking almost every conceivable form. Attacks on airfields and
radar stations, armories and military posts, the wrecking of railway lines
... and bank holdups all bore witness to organization on a larger, dangerous
and ingenious scale, and were by general admission made possible chiefly by
the active or passive support which the terrorists received from the great
majority of the Jewish population [in Palestine]."

Returning to the Britannica (Volume 6, page 382), we learn that "On July
22, 1946 the Irgun blew up a wing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem,
killing 91 soldiers and civilians ... On April 9, 1947 [remember Menachem
Begin was at the time leader of the Irgun], a group of Irgun commandos
raided the Arab village of Dayr Yasin [also spelled Deir Yassin] killing all
254 of its inhabitants. " But how many Americans know about the
massacre at Deir Yassin and its direct contribution to the conflict in the
Middle East today? How many Americans realize that "this highly publicized
act terrorized the Arab villagers, who began a mass exodus from Palestine"?
(Encyclopedia Britannica, Volume 22, page 143.)

Begin was a terrorist was hardly a symptom of Palestinian fanaticism. And
not only Begin, but Yitzhak Shamir, his friend and successor in the Israeli
government. Why hadn't I ever read about this in the papers? Heard it on TV
or the radio?

The massacre at Deir Yassin and the consequent Palestinian exodus, the Israelis simply took title to the real estate of the fleeing Palestinians as "abandoned property. " When Palestinians tried to
return home, they found they had nothing left to their names.

Ramallah, along with Bethlehem, Nazareth, and a number of other Palestinian
towns, have long been predominantly Christian. Some 25
percent of the Palestinians are Christians, of whom half are Orthodox.
But you get the impression from the media that all Arabs are Muslims.
Have you ever seen a documentary or even a news story focusing on the
Christian Palestinians?

The Zionist slogan "A people without a land for a land
without people," is sheer nonsense, for a very large population of
Palestinian Arabs had lived there for more than a thousand years. Arab fury
at Israel is based not on some sort of wild hysteria: it is the anguish of
people who have been systematically and ruthlessly dispossessed from their
homeland and personal property.

The Zionist movement began sponsoring Jewish settlement in Palestine early
in this century. At first the Arabs and the Jews got along well. But more
and more Jews began to move in before World War 11, and the idea spread
among the Arabs that the Jews were planning to take over Palestine
completely for themselves. The rapid influx at the end of World War 11
increased Palestinian Arab fears. To take over completely was in fact
precisely the plan, and still is. The actions of Begin and Shamir, now
recognized as great statesmen and, unlike Arafat, welcome in the United
States, have made that clear.

So of course the Palestinians were and are upset! You would be too! The
irony of all this is that the Zionists claim all of Palestine on the grounds
God gave it to them 3,000 years ago, but the majority of Israeli Jews are
"not religious." Most of them are agnostics or even atheists. So
it's as if they are saying, "There is no God, but He gave us this land, and
we intend to take it all."

In any conflict it takes "two to tango," and there are of course two sides
to this issue Arabs have certainly committed their atrocities, starting
before World War II. The Arabs have made their mistakes, and in several
cases have failed to take responsibility. Both sides have refused
compromises, and at this date, compromise they must, or we'll all be
destroyed in a new holocaust. Also, I hate "Jew bashing," and I'm at pains
that this admittedly forthright criticism of the state of Israel not be
construed as that.

But it seems "Arab bashing" is quite okay in this country, and we only
faintly hear the Arab side of the story. It's okay to caricature Arabs
unkindly, but no one would dare so abuse the Jews. We all remember how Leon
Klinghoffer was thrown into the sea in his wheelchair by Arab terrorists.
But how many remember that Alex Odeh, a spokesman for the Arab viewpoint,
was also murdered that same week by Jewish terrorists in Los Angeles! Alex
also had loved ones; his murder was as tragic as Klinghoffer's.

Up until the intifada, the media created impression was that the Jews are
always the good guys, and the Arabs the bad guys. Media coverage of the
intifada, however, has brought home to Americans how brutal the Israeli
military very often can be. I sometimes wonder if it has sunk into the
brains and hearts of the American public that most of the Palestinians
killed by the Israeli troops have been teenage boys. I have read about
two who were shot in the head for writing slogans on the wall! Can you
imagine the
outcry if American soldiers were shooting down rock-throwing Black or
Mexicans youthful protesters or gunning down young boys writing
antigovernment slogans on a wall! Ironically, American Jews would be the
first to protest, and justly so!

I have no negative agenda for the Jews. I do indeed wish them well. But in
the name of integrity and decency, let's have more prominent Jewish voices
raised, confessing the Israeli part in the Middle East mess. The whining of
some columnists, "We're always innocent victims, first it was Hitler, and
now it's the Arabs" is being consciously used to manipulate public policy,
and that is disgusting. The Jews were innocent in Nazi Germany. But
the Israelis are hardly innocent of great offenses.

I see some Jewish leaders setting themselves up for backlash, and I wish
they'd take heed. The perception is growing that powerful Jewish interests
wish to control our politicians' votes on, and media coverage of, Israeli
questions. I don't know if that's the truth: but it would help dispel that
perception if vocal and courageous Jewish leaders would encourage both
dissemination of media information about Israel's dark side and public
debate on Israeli issues.

We're told by Israel that its policy is none of our business, but we
American taxpayers are asked to foot Israeli bills. Israel now wants more
dollars, and I'll be very surprised if that gets debated in public. What a
subtle form of taxation without representation! Why shouldn't we publicly
debate this multi-billion dollar issue?

The Arab world can only become filled with rage when virtually every person
in the street knows full well the US has tolerated Israel's continued
incursions into foreign territory and other violations of international law,
but has attacked Iraq, ostensibly for its violations of international law.
The war in the Gulf was certainly not simply a long-term result of the way
the Zionist movement has proceeded in the past 50 or 60 years. The
Palestinian-Israeli conflict is not the only serious issue afflicting the
Arabs. But only if you are blind to or ignorant of history can you fail to
recognize the destabilizing effect Israel's policies have had on the Middle
East. I believe that if the Zionists from the beginning had been willing to
share
Palestine with the native Arabs, without wanting to take over completely,
there would have been no major strife. Contrary to popular opinion, at
several times in history the Jews and the Muslims have gotten along very
well. The Jews rose to great heights in Islamic Spain. When, after the
Reconquista, Isabella and Ferdinand exiled the Jews, the Muslim sultan of
Turkey sent
ships to bring them to his domain! The sultan wrote Isabella thanking her
for sending him her crown jewels.

I believe if Israel today will quit its ruthless expansionism and begin to
respect the God given civil rights of the Palestinians, the strife will be
reduced to the point where there is no physical violence. I would like to
see more American Jews who would like to see Israel change its tactics speak
up openly and loudly, because their voices will be heard in Israel.

Let us pray for peace in the Middle East, that justice and love will
prevail. Let us pray that the Palestinian-Israeli issue will become a matter
of open discussion in this country.

Other obligations prevent me from writing until later today -- and I intend to focus on Rahm Emanuel's war-crimes-protecti ng proclamation that Obama's desire for immunity extends beyond CIA officers perpetrating torture to the "policy makers" who ordered it (watch today as the hardest-core Obama loyalists start explaining how the UN doesn't matter, international treaties are irrelevant, and war criminals need not be held accountable) -- but, until then, I wanted to highlight this extremely important and well-reported story from CQ's Jeff Stein, which involves allegations of major corruption and serious criminal activity on the part of Democratic Rep. Jane Harman. Here's one crucial prong of the story:

Rep. Jane Harman , the California Democrat with a longtime involvement in intelligence issues, was overheard on an NSA wiretap telling a suspected Israeli agent that she would lobby the Justice Department to reduce espionage-related charges against two officials of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, the most powerful pro-Israel organization in Washington.

Harman was recorded saying she would "waddle into" the AIPAC case "if you think it'll make a difference," according to two former senior national security officials familiar with the NSA transcript.

In exchange for Harman's help, the sources said, the suspected Israeli agent pledged to help lobby Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., then-House minority leader, to appoint Harman chair of the Intelligence Committee after the 2006 elections, which the Democrats were heavily favored to win.

Seemingly wary of what she had just agreed to, according to an official who read the NSA transcript, Harman hung up after saying, "This conversation doesn't exist."

That's not even the most significant part. Back in October, 2006, Time reported that the DOJ and FBI were investigating whether Harman and AIPAC "violated the law in a scheme to get Harman reappointed as the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee" and "the probe also involves whether, in exchange for the help from AIPAC, Harman agreed to help try to persuade the Administration to go lighter on the AIPAC officials caught up in the ongoing investigation. " So that part has been known since 2006.

Stein adds today that Harman was captured on an NSA wiretap conspiring with an Israeli agent to apply pressure on DOJ officials to scale back the AIPAC prosecution. But the real crux of Stein's scoop is that then-Attorney General Alberto Gonazles intervened to kill the criminal investigation into Harman -- even though DOJ lawyers had concluded that she committed crimes -- because top Bush officials wanted Harman's credibility to be preserved so that she could publicly defend the Bush administration' s illegal warrantless eavesdropping program:

[C]ontrary to reports that the Harman investigation was dropped for "lack of evidence," it was Alberto R. Gonzales, President Bush's top counsel and then attorney general, who intervened to stop the Harman probe.

Why? Because, according to three top former national security officials, Gonzales wanted Harman to be able to help defend the administration' s warrantless wiretapping program, which was about to break in The New York Times and engulf the White House. . . .

Justice Department attorneys in the intelligence and public corruption units who read the transcripts decided that Harman had committed a "completed crime," a legal term meaning that there was evidence that she had attempted to complete it, three former officials said. . . .

Then-CIA Director Porter J. Goss reviewed the Harman transcript and signed off on the Justice Department's FISA application. . . . Goss, a former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, deemed the matter particularly urgent because of Harman's rank as the panel's top Democrat.

But that's when, according to knowledgeable officials, Attorney General Gonzales intervened.

According to two officials privy to the events, Gonzales said he "needed Jane" to help support the administration' s warrantless wiretapping program, which was about to be exposed by the New York Times.

Harman, he told Goss, had helped persuade the newspaper to hold the wiretap story before, on the eve of the 2004 elections. And although it was too late to stop the Times from publishing now, she could be counted on again to help defend the program

He was right.

On Dec. 21, 2005, in the midst of a firestorm of criticism about the wiretaps, Harman issued a statement defending the operation and slamming the Times, saying, "I believe it essential to U.S. national security, and that its disclosure has damaged critical intelligence capabilities. "

And thanks to grateful Bush administration officials, the investigation of Harman was effectively dead.

Indeed, as I've noted many times, Jane Harman, in the wake of the NSA scandal, became probably the most crucial defender of the Bush warrantless eavesdropping program, using her status as "the ranking Democratic on the House intelligence committee" to repeatedly praise the NSA program as "essential to U.S. national security" and "both necessary and legal." She even went on Meet the Press to defend the program along with GOP Sen. Pat Roberts and Rep. Pete Hoekstra, and she even strongly suggested that the whistleblowers who exposed the lawbreaking and perhaps even the New York Times (but not Bush officials) should be criminally investigated, saying she "deplored the leak," that "it is tragic that a lot of our capability is now across the pages of the newspapers," and that the whistleblowers were "despicable. " And Eric Lichtblau himself described how Harman, in 2004, attempted very aggressively to convince him not to write about the NSA program.

Stein's entire story should be read. It's a model of excellent reporting, as it relies on numerous sources with first-hand knowledge of the NSA transcripts (and what sweet justice it would be if Harman's guilt were established by government eavesdropping) . It should be noted that Harman has issued a general denial of wrongdoing (but does not appear to deny that she had the discussion Stein reports), and the sources in Stein's story are anonymous (though because they're disclosing classified information and exposing government wrongdoing, it's a classic case of when anonymity is justifiable; and note Stein's efforts to provide as much information as possible about his sources and why they are anonymous).

There are many questions that the story raises -- Josh Marshall notes just some of those vital questions here -- and Harman's guilt therefore shouldn't be assumed. But obviously, given all the very serious issues this story raises -- involving what seem to be credible allegations of very serious wrongdoing by a key member of Congress, the former Attorney General and one of the most powerful lobbying organizations in the country -- full-scale investigations are needed, to put it mildly.

This is a huge story: Representative Jane Harman, a hawkish, influential "Blue Dog" Democrat "was overheard on an NSA wiretap telling a suspected Israeli agent that she would lobby the Justice Department reduce espionage-related charges against two officials of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, the most powerful pro-Israel organization in Washington," according to a report from CQ Politics:

Harman was recorded saying she would "waddle into" the AIPAC case "if you think it'll make a difference," according to two former senior national security officials familiar with the NSA transcript.

In exchange for Harman's help, the sources said, the suspected Israeli agent pledged to help lobby Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., then-House minority leader, to appoint Harman chair of the Intelligence Committee after the 2006 elections, which the Democrats were heavily favored to win.

Seemingly wary of what she had just agreed to, according to an official who read the NSA transcript, Harman hung up after saying, "This conversation doesn't exist."

The case, known as the AIPAC espionage scandal centers around allegations that at least two AIPAC staff members passed sensitive US intelligence on Iran, provided by Pentagon official Lawrence Franklin, to Israel. In early 2006, Franklin pled guilty to espionage-related charges and was sentenced to 13 years in prison. The case against two indicted AIPAC staffers, Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman, is ongoing.

Allegations that Harman intervened in this case in an effort to win the spot as chair of the Intelligence Committee have been widespread since 2006, but an FBI investigation into Harman was dropped for "lack of evidence." As CQ Politics reports:

What is new is that Harman is said to have been picked up on a court-approved NSA tap directed at alleged Israel covert action operations in Washington.

And that, contrary to reports that the Harman investigation was dropped for "lack of evidence," it was Alberto R. Gonzales, President Bush's top counsel and then attorney general, who intervened to stop the Harman probe.

Why? Because, according to three top former national security officials, Gonzales wanted Harman to be able to help defend the administration' s warrantless wiretapping program, which was about break in The New York Times and engulf the White House.

When Justice Department officials reviewed the transcript of the wiretaps on Rep. Harman, its attorneys determined she had committed a "completed crime," which, according to CQ Politics is "a legal term meaning that there was evidence that she had attempted to complete it." The Justice Department attorneys wanted to open a case on her, but they needed the green light from top intel officials to confirm it rightly constituted a national security investigation. Porter Goss, who was then the CIA director reportedly approved the investigation and was preparing to notify then-Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and House Speaker Dennis Hastert and, through them, Harman herself:

There may be some who attempt to portray Harman as a victim of blackmail by Gonzales (and the wiretapping of members of Congress—and other Americans— should be thoroughly investigated) but Harman is a right wing Democrat who was often in sync with the heinous policies of the Bush administration. Over at TalkingPointsMemo, Josh Marshall raises some interesting issues on this story, particularly relating to the wiretap itself:

Among the many questions the story raises are some that Harman should probably answer, but not all. High on my list would be finding out more about the circumstances under which a member of Congress ended up having her phone conversations recorded by the NSA. The article suggests it was a by-the-books wiretap — part of a highly-classified probe of Israeli agents in the US, which led to the indictments of two AIPAC employees — and not one of the `warrantless' ones. But we've seen so much funny business on that front that I'm not sure that's enough information.

In a prepared statement, Harman said: "These claims are an outrageous and recycled canard, and have no basis in fact… I never engaged in any such activity. Those who are peddling these false accusations should be ashamed of themselves."

How Israel Is (NOT) Helping the Middle East

1- 70% of its doctors have emigrated.

2- It has lost more than 5,500 of its scientists and academics, killed, imprisoned, or emigrated.

3- 70% of its hospitals have minimum standard performance, below the required standards in the remnants of what is destroyed, raided, or stolen.

4- 90% of medicines in pharmacies is neither analysed nor is it registered or is bad or corrupt and contaminated; it is brought on to the black market across the borders by ghost companies and a country in which thousands of unlicensed pharmacies and drug depots exist, run by people who are not pharmacists.

5- Its hospitals are used as centers for ethnic and sectarian physical liquidation and terror by the militias.

6- The Ministry of Health is part of a sectarian quota division system that specifies the identity of the minister and the directors general and is controlled by the theocratic political parties as well as the religious and sectarian militias. It is an institution in which financial and administrative corruption prevails and according to the Transparency Committee, more than 2 Billion US Dollars have disappeared as a result of phony ghost contracts and bribery.

7- There is no supervisory or monitoring role to be mentioned by the present parliamentarians who are doctors, but on the contrary, their interference may cause a negative effect on the size and the nature of the financial and administrative corruption.

8- Widespread mental illness and drug addiction and the widespread growth of opium poppy plantations and opium for the first time since occupation.

9- Alteration of basic medical purchase requirements and their replacement with insignificant lists and invoices..

10- The spread of epidemics and the loss of credibility of all statistics and the lack of statistics of cholera, Measles, Diphtheria and Whooping Cough, and Toxoplasmosis and a worsening situation of Tuberculosis and HIV Aids.

11- Unsafe imported foods.

12- A rise of incidence in cancer and the nature of the registered cases recently and a rise in cases of congenital malformation as due to the aggravated complications as a result of radioactive pollution and the burning down of trees. Pollution of rivers, as a result of the collapse of the sewage system, particularly in the Middle and the South caused by the use of Depleted Uranium and White Phosphorous as well as Cluster Bombs, and the prevention by the occupation forces of remedial measures and surveys to discover the polluted locations for sterilization and cleansing.

13- The proliferation of landmines in the sites of the old wars, as well as unexploded ordinance, especially in Basra and in the border areas.

14- Loss of cooperation and harmony with the humanitarian and voluntary organizations, such as the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and others, as well as financial corruption in the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, and the escape outside Iraq, of its President with US protection.

15 - Lack of medicines and supplies and, as well as minimal financial allocations, since they did not exceed 4% of the overall budget allocations in the best of cases, and because of rampant corruption.

16 - Lack of safe potable water for more than 70% of the population and the continuing lack of electricity as well as the lack of proper sanitation.

17 - The highest rates of infant and newborn mortality in the world.

18 - In Iraq after the occupation:

o More than five million are displaced.

o More than 4 million are below poverty level.

o Approximately, 2 million widows.

o Five million orphans.

o Insufficient food for more than eight million.

o More than 400,000 have been detainees and prisoned.

o More than 28% of the population is unemployed. ........"

The revelations centre on t-shirt designs made for soldiersthat make light of shooting pregnant Palestinian mothers and childrenand include images of dead babies and destroyed mosques. The t-shirts were printed for Israeli soldiers at the end of periods ofdeploymentor training courses and were discovered by Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

One, printed for a platoon of Israeli snipers depicts an armedPalestinian pregnant women caught in the crosshairs of a rifle,with the disturbing caption in English: "1 shot 2 kills" (see picture). Another depicts a child carrying a gun also in the centre of a target."The smaller, the harder," read the words on the t-shirt.According to a soldier interviewed by the newspaper,the message has a double meaning: "It's a kid, so you've got a little more of a problem,morally and also the target is smaller."Another shows an Israeli soldier blowing up a mosque and reads"Only God forgives".

"I do not believe the National Intelligence Council could function effectively while its chair was under constant attack by unscrupulous people with a passionate attachment to the views of a political faction in a foreign country.

Many conservatives take vicarious pleasure in America’s superpower status. Bush’s flaunting of American power is one reason conservatives took scant notice of Bush’s police state measures and ill-conceived wars. Conservatives were so delighted with Bush giving the finger to the UN, the world community and especially France, a country conservatives have despised ever since Charles De Gaulle refused to follow the American line, that conservatives paid no attention to Bush’s assault on civil liberty and his squandering of America’s soft power.
I wonder how much longer conservatives will be strutting around now that the "defeated" Taliban are denying the Peshawar/Khyber Pass supply route to the unipower’s military for resupply of its troops in Afghanistan. The US has had to go hat in hand to the Russians to request a resupply route through Russian territory, and has been told non-munition supplies only. The Russians might be willing for Obama to send arms through if Obama repudiates Bush’s decision to put anti-ballistic missile defenses in the American puppet states of Poland and Czech Republic.
The Polish government is concerned about repeating its World War II mistake of putting its fate in the hands of a distant protector instead of with the military power on its border and recently admonished Washington not to renege on the missile deal. Poland is clinging desperately to Bush’s promise of nuclear war in defense of Poland, just as seven decades ago the Polish colonels thought they could stick their finger in Hitler’s eye, because Britain had given Poland a guarantee.
Iraq is another embarrassment for conservatives, with the Iranian-allied Shi’ite party, not the unipower, dictating the withdrawal agreement. The US remains in Iraq only as a useful scapegoat for the Shi’ite rulers.
But what’s really going to blow the legs out from under conservatives is the realization that the great superpower is the chattel goods of the Israel Lobby.
The Obama administration, despite the Democrats’ decisive electoral victory in last November’s election, has demonstrated that the great unipower cannot appoint its own chairman of the National Intelligence Council. Charles Freeman, a distinguished and independent-minded American, former ambassador and former Assistant Secretary of Defense, found his appointment blocked by Steve Rosen, a former official of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) currently under indictment as an Israeli spy, and a handful of American Jewish neoconservatives closely identified with the right-wing government in Israel.
How is the United States a superpower when it cannot appoint the official who oversees the National Intelligence Estimate without the approval of the Israeli right-wing government and its American agents?
Conservatives will say, of course, that Israel is the "only democracy in the Middle East." The question whether Israel, or, for that matter, America, is a democracy is beside the point. The point is that Israel has shown that it can control not merely US foreign policy but also US intelligence policy.
Last Thursday America’s Overlord sent the Chief of Staff of the American financed and supplied Israel Defense Forces, General Gabi Ashkenazi, to meet with President Barack Obama, Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General James Jones, National Security Advisor, and Dennis Ross, the US State Department’s Special Advisor for the Persian Gulf and Southwest Asia.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that General Ashkenazi will also meet with "senior American journalists and with the heads of AIPAC, the American pro-Israel lobbyist group."
General Ashkenazi will also "be a guest of honor at the annual ‘Supporters of the IDF [Israeli Defense Forces]" convention in the city of New York and will address its participants.
General Ashkenazi will also be meeting with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger "as well as with the heads of the New York Jewish Federation."
The official reason for General Ashkenazi’s visit is to warn America about the threat that Iran presents to the United States. In reality, the general has been sent to stir up an American attack on Iran.
The military/security complex will welcome the opening of a new front on the "war on terror." The profits of the American arms industries desperately need a new war to replace Iraq. "Our" government in Washington desperately needs new reasons to suppress American civil liberties. The traitorous Bush Republicans and their Democratic enablers desperately need justification for committing America to multi-trillion dollar illegal wars. The neoconservatives desperately need a rationale for the lies they told to start what they hope are long-term wars in the Middle East. The neocon madmen even want to overthrow Saudi Arabia, one of America’s largest creditors.
Conservatives will welcome these developments with open arms. America will have a chance to redeem itself. America can yet prove it is a superpower by conquering both Iran and Afghanistan. Once these victories are in hand, Israel can destroy both Hamas and Hezbollah, and the new Israel can incorporate Palestine and southern Lebanon.
While conservatives dream these dreams, the Premier of China, Wen Jiabao, expressed on Friday, March 13, his fears that the US Treasury’s credit was not good and that his country’s $1 trillion investment in American debt was endangered. Premier Wen said, "We have lent a huge amount of money to the U.S. Of course we are concerned about the safety of our assets. To be honest, I am definitely a little worried."
Contrast Premier Wen’s concern with the optimism coming out of the Obama administration and what remains of Wall Street.
Then exercise Charles Freeman’s independent thinking and make up your own mind.
Is America a superpower, or is America a rapidly declining country destroyed by gratuitous wars and shyster banksters?
